Raavanleela... a musical satire on 'Modern Desi Ramleela'

RAAVANLEELA

The scenario is a Ramleela being enacted in a village. When the curtain rises, the audience is restless. People have been waiting for more than an hour for the Ramleela to begin. Finally they start pelting with shoes, tomatoes and eggs - the manager comes on the stage with folded hands beseeching the public to calm down. He is in a spot because Raavan has not got his act together as the makeup man has not turned up and begs to be excused. Raavan out of rage moves out and leave the show.

In an amateurish Ramleela at countryside situation becomes chaotic, humorous because of the involvement of all non-serious, disinterested and untrained members of the society enacting characters from Ramayana. In the process, situation turns hilarious when boisterous Kartar Singh turns Ramleela into Ravan leela and refuses to die if his demand of hike in fees is not accomplished.

The organizer apologizes for this premature ending. He is again pelted with eggs etc. Music starts playing in the background & he gyrates to its tune. Ramleela in the ends turns out to be a true Ravanleela.
