By MTG editorial

A probable first on Hindustani theatre scene, Javed Siddiqi’s Aapki Soniya is a sequel to the legendary Tumhari Amrita. The play stands on its own, unfolding the story of a later generation.

In the twilight of his career, Zulfiqar Haider ex Governor and an important political leader is shaken out of his wits by the letters of a woman Soniya from France. With her venomous accusations and rigorous pursuit, she creates an upheaval, shaking his languorous life of content.

Mr. Farooque Shaikh, the celebrated actor provides this link with his character of Zulfiqar Haider. Ms.Sonali Bendre a formidable film star, known for her poise and dignity in mainstream Indian films performs the role of Soniya, a girl in quest of her roots. These two characters interact with each other only through their letters, leading to an exchange of hate mail. What ensues is an evolution of a relationship in spite of the hatred which provides a common bond between the two.
