Aadipashya

By MTG editorial

In the long and rich tradition of Greek Theatre, Oedipus Rex, a play by Sophocles holds a unique significance. AADIPASHYA is an adaptation by Vivek Apte of this Classic in the ‘Keertan Shailee’ of the Marathi language.

AADIPASHYA is a story of a disabled, yet a warrior king, who craves all his life for the knowledge of the truth of his life and finally when he succeeds in uncovering the truth he gets defeated by its whole existence. Not only does he get to know that he is the murderer of his own father but also something much more.... which is drastically shattering! However, being a True King of the Masses he chooses to face each truth gallantly and unflinchingly, always preferring the pain of Knowledge to the bliss of Ignorance.

Keertan is an ancient temple tradition of Maharashtra, with its roots in the Indian Mythology. It is an art of attaining the spiritual experience through story- telling, song and dance. AADIPASHYA is a Fusion of two great traditions of story telling – Greek Tragedy & the Keertan , to generate a more interesting style of theatre.
