Maitreyee

Maitreyee takes its inspiration from Alfred Lord Tennyson's quote: "The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions." Maitreyee seeks to create and present unique and path breaking drama. The group is a coming together of passionate and like-minded individuals who identify with the art of theatre. Currently it is involved in producing Marathi plays but for the future it dosen't wish to restrict itself to any one language.

A chance meeting of Omkar Thatte and Gargi Phule in the month of October 2006 started the whole process. Gargi Phule at that time was an already established amateur stage actress. She was associated with Samanvay, Pune and had done a couple of events under her own venture known as Mitwa. A student of Pt. Satyadev Dubey, Gargi wanted to create productions which would satisfy her unending passion for drama. Omkar Thatte on the other hand is an ex- media professional and is now working as a software professional. He too was on the look out for an opportunity to satisfy his creative zeal.

During the informal meeting Gargi and Omkar discovered that they shared the same vision. The next obvious step for them was to create a drama group. A drama group, which would not only act as a bank of creative minds, but also as a group which had a focus and a vision. With the gathering of young and old creative minds Maitreyee was officially established in November 2007.

The journey towards the vision of creating unique dramatic experiences, started on a low profile. A brief acting workshop was conducted in the last quarter of 2007 by Gargi Phule. UTTAR RATRA, an adaptation of Edward Albee's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF is their first production.
