CHAKRAVYUH

"Chakrvyuh" is the story of the thirteenth day of the great battle of Mahabharata. This play does not confine "Chakravyuh" to just a war-craft and take it to the level of a complete philosophy. This play explores the episode of the killing of Abhminayu in Chakravyuh formation and all the questions, myths, ideologies and convictions related to it at many levels. Written and performed in the form of verses, this play works as a bridge between history and present and connects them both with perennial concepts of "Karma" and "Dharma".

The strategy made in Kaurava Camp leads to the formation of Chakravyuh where brave Abhimanyu attains martyrdom fighting till his last breath. In a poetic rendition, a conversation takes place between Yudhisthira and Bheeshma where the King gives a word-to-word description of the bravado of great Abhimanyu and also shares his inability to face Arjun who would soon be coming back from the battlefield and ask for his son. Bheeshma motivates Yudhishtira to face reality and all the questions. Also, he requires Yudhisthir to pass on to Arjun the message that it has been enough of spiritual teaching through Bhagwat Geeta. Now, is the time to get down to what a father should be doing when his son has been brutally killed on the battlefield? Subhadra and young Uttara have their share of doubts, questions, and allegations with the plight of single mothers in all the ages to come being the primary one. Draupadi also questions Yudhishthirfor not sending her sons to the Chakravyuh instead of Abhimanyu as the pride and glory of martyrdom in Chakravyuh belonged to her sons. Finally, Krishna appears and settles all questions, myths, and misunderstanding of everyone present. He passes on the eternal messages of Karma and by telling no one has ever been able to come out of their respective Chakravyuh as this whole life is a nothing but a Chakravyuh. Our Karma is to fight in the Chakravyuh and getting out of it is the result of that Karma over which we can never have control.
