LAVANI KE RANG (M) Story :

Lavani, the traditional art form of Maharashtra, is hugely popular for its unabashed expression of sexuality and its direct involvement of the audience. But the mainstream media has popularised only a fast-paced, fusion form of Lavani. It has also portrayed Lavani women from the Sangeet Bari tradition at two extremes �" either as victims or as villains. Their matriarchal traditions, their work dynamics and their life stories, however, are not widely known. The production attempts to showcase all this and give Lavani and Lavani artists, the respect and space they deserve. Lavani Ke Rang’ gives a glimpse into the world of traditional Lavani artists from the view point of an enigmatic and quirky theatre Malkin from the Sangeet Bari tradition. She takes the audience on a journey of their theatre rules, traditions, private performances and their practical outlook towards their art. The play attempts to bridge the gap between their world and the world of urban art-lovers. Lavani songs are performed to live music and singing which celebrate the myriad colours of life in styles that go beyond the popular item-number.
