AHAM MURAKAMI Review
There are many reasons why AHAM MURAKAMI is a delight to watch as well as being a very competently made play.
It catches your attention with the very distinctive sets and costumes. One feels that one has truly come to a different country - Japan, in this case.
There is a strong blend of a story, a smooth plot and humour in the writing. Whether the writing draws an inspiration from Murakami or the current flavour of the season, Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, is immaterial. Perhaps, the success of these would have helped create a taste for Japanese settings, but that's all. The plot is daring as well, because it depicts a human being falling in love with a monkey but is able to portray it convincingly.
The actors are all apt and expressive. They blend humour, wit, action and emotion convincingly. Neha Kumari, who plays Mizuki Ozawa, trapped in a cafe with someone trying to woo her, a weird cafe manager and a waiter is funny. She comes to the cafe to meet a strange doctor who is also a philosopher, Dr Katsuki.
A monkey brought up by human beings enters the plot and arouses emotion in her. The visuals are striking but so is the humour and the strange plot works for the audience.
All in all, we can that AHAM MURAKAMI, by Lovely Raj, justifies the house full audience in Prithvi House and is ready for larger audiences. Adammya Theatre Group's production successfully stands out by transporting us to a different country, and uncommon plot points.
