 PRIME TIME: SEXTY MINUTES Review

PRIME TIME: SEXTY MINUTES, as the name may suggest, is a play about youngsters exploring their sexuality and being the subject of a prime time news show. The play is about the various situations youngsters pass through as they enter adulthood, exploring contemporary sexuality within the context of the value system.

The play is written meticulously. The characters are written with a lot of authenticity. The dialogues are also brimming with ideas. The characters include an anchor who likes to promote a conservative point of view. There is a man and a woman who form part of the panel discussion and represent conservative ideas while not conforming themselves. There is one panellist who aims to showcase contemporary values. At the centre of it all is a girl who has had premarital sex.

The actors perform their parts well. The audience reacts throughout the play. There is plenty to laugh about. The fact that the actors are attractive also helps. Within scant resources, the art work is also managed well. A special mention must be made of music as it performed live throughout the play.

In terms of areas of improvements, we can say that the play could have been more engaging with some slow episodes or by having some emotional moments. The hilarity and wit may be better absorbed with some time given to ruminate. However, the writing passes most tests. Since it is a short play, it makes sense to have non-stop witticism.

The actors Aanya Dhingra, Ankit Dabas, Gargi Datar, Manik Papneja and Akanksha Awasthi put up a well-rehearsed performance as they combine long dialogues with a variety of expressions.

The play is also a timely satire on the crisis of credibility being faced by television news debates.
