Butoh training endeavors to free the subconscious mind. Specific techniques help actors unveil their natural expressiveness and strips away the socially acceptable movements and gestures. It encourages actors to find and embrace hidden movements that lie buried beneath years of conditioned behavior and training.

Actors enter an altered state of consciousness, somewhat like meditation. Wherein the performer also explores character creation.

Actors can use a variety of specific activities to explore their inner true self darker parts
