Children’s Film Academy brings to India the internationally acclaimed filmmaking programme for young people, Cinema Cent Ans De Jeunnesse, created and co-ordinated by Cinematheque Francaise, Paris. This critically acclaimed filmmaking programme for children is celebrated for its avante-garde approach to cinema which cultivates ways of seeing with creative cinematic expression. Since 1995, 7 to 18 year olds have been taking part in the unique experience of CCAJ, mixing discovery of cinematic heritage with filmmaking practice. The participants watch a series of clips from the history of world cinema, film a series of exercises, then make a short film, which is shown at the Cinémathèque Française in June. The programme has a theme every year. The earlier themes have been the Long Take, Colour, Climate, Play among others. This year, the theme is Spaces and the Stories They Tell. A unique feature of this programme is that it runs simultaneously in twenty countries across Europe, UK and Japan. In six day-long sessions spread across January - May, one almost every month, participants go through intense hands-on training and basics of film language. They write and evolve their stories and scripts through the weekdays, upload their exercises on the CCAJ blog and exchange notes on filmmaking with their peers across the globe. A few participants (willing to bear the cost) travel to Paris to attend the Grand Convocation, benefiting tremendously from exposure to latest international approaches and filmmaking styles. All the filmmaking equipment will be provided by CFA. The British Film Institute is the CFA’s Academic Support Partner.
