 HARAVLELYA PATTYANCHA BANGLAA Review

Nobody likes to be taken for granted.. even if we love the person; eventually we get tired of it. Still, we take others for granted occasionally and sometimes we become the victim of this attitude. Writer Swara Mokashi's play HARAVLELYA PATTYANCHA BANGLAA takes a closer look at this familiar situation.

Indira (Vandana Gupte), a senior citizen is living in her two bedroom apartment with a paying guest, Nidhi (Dipti Lele), a student. The idea of paying guest serves the purpose of company and cash flow too. Despite the age gap, Indira and Nidhi have a good rapport. Indira's son is settled in USA with his family and keeps on insisting her to visit USA. Being afraid of loneliness, Indira is not ready for it. Her quite demanding daughter Ira (Pratiksha Lonkar) stays at a distant suburb Badalapur and keeps on visiting her at times. Indira has spent her life in a chawl but now she has adjusted herself to this new system and has set her own routine and pace of life.

One fine day, Ira visits her on a short notice as usual with husband Nitin (Rajan Joshi) and tells her that Ishaan (Atharva Nakti), Ira's son has got an admission in a nearby college and so he will shift in with Indira soon. Indira is happy to get grand-son's company. Ira also tells her to get Nidhi out of house as she is not comfortable to make her son share one roof with a young girl. As it is difficult for Nidhi to get a new accommodation in the middle of the year, Indira hesitates to do so but finally conveniences Nidhi as per Ira's wish. After few days, Ira surprises mother with her own transfer to nearby office and joins Ishaan. Nitin also starts visiting regularly at weekends. Though Indira is happy to have their company and to facilitate them to keep up with their schedule, this change results in extra work-load on her and disturbs her routine too.

Ira takes her too much granted in every aspect. Her husband Nitin argues with her from time to time but for Ira there is nothing wrong in it. Indira, buried under the burden of traditional image of a mother, is not much aware of her discomfort and unable to express too. However, the news of her elder sister's lonely death at an old age home shocks her and makes her rethink the situation. Nidhi, who has coincidentally visited her on the day, helps to analyze the things. As a result, Indira takes the decision which is a surprise for her daughter who is just ready to put on further burden on mother's shoulders.

It is indeed a treat to watch the enactments of great performers like Vandana Gupte and Pratiksha Lonkar. Vandana Gupte has portrayed Indira easily with all her minute nuances. Pratiksha Lonkar has given a balanced performance. A little imbalance in this role could have given the character a negative shade. Dipti Lele has done very well and established Nidhi with deep understanding. Rajan Joshi and Atharva Nakti has supported really well.

This is a first full-fledged play by Swara Mokashi and it's a very reassuring to find an easy flow and dialogues naturally humorous without trying hard to be funny. Director Chandrakant Kulkarni has filled in the tiny details and beautifully worked out small moments. Costume designing by Bhagyashri Jadhav and Pratima Joshi is to be noted. All other technical aspects are up to the mark.
