Raj Bisaria, RIP

Theatre doyen Raj Bisaria-- producer, director, actor and educationist, passed away at the age of 88. He was the founder of Theatre Arts Workshop in 1966 and the Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1975 in Lucknow.

Over his long career dedicated to theatre, he produced and directed over 75 theatre productions. His major productions included BAREFOOT IN ATHENS, MACBETH OTHELLO, CANDIDA, THE CARETAKER, ANTIGONE, ANDHA YUG, BAKI ITIHAS, SUNO JANMEJAYA, AADHE ADHURE, GARBO to make just a few.

He was the first theatre practitioner from Uttar Pradesh to have been awarded a Padma Shree by the Government of India, for his work in modern theatre.
