Based on Vijaydan Detha's LAJWANTI, "DESERT BLOOM" is a musical tale of women's emotions. Through music & dance they articulate their subdued feelings and strange human desires, reveal a profound connection to nature and a yearning for freedom.
Our play is an exploration of characters of arid regions and the quiet rebellion of women within oppressive system. It is loosely inspired from one of the famous Vijaydan Detha's - "Lajwanti". It is multi-lingual consisting of Rajasthani, Hindi & English languages.
Based in the semi-desert area of Rajasthan, particularly the "Panihari" who play a crucial role in sustaining her family by fetching water daily from distant sources, is a representation of a deeply conditioned & culturally rich society.
Our characters are living within the boundaries of patriarchal order, their lives are shaped by unrelenting struggles, deep embedded curiosity, hidden desires and journey of unseen pain. Behind the daily toil lies an untold saga of emotional suppression. Women here are bounded by societal setup, rarely have the liberty to express their dreams or explore their individuality.
These stories, while part of the region's rich heritage, often reinforce traditional gender bias, subtly perpetuating the status quo & their artistic expressions serve as a testament to the enduring spirit of Rajasthani women and their contributions to the the cultural tapestry of the region.
