The Last Train

By MTG editorial

Written by Anju Makhija, this play was shortlisted for the BBC World Playwriting Award in 1999. The play is directed by Ashok Banthia. It features Kanika Dang, Rajkumar Kanojia, Akshat Gupta, Sahib, Rajeev Sharma, Dhruv Kaushik and Ashok Banthia.

The play opens on a Mumbai local train that has stalled on the Vashi bridge late at night. Three friends are stranded in a compartment with a very attractive woman. While each of them is anxious to get home, a roller-coaster ride, full of surprises, awaits them.

A VIP suffers terrible injuries in a car accident near the railway crossing and his head is separated from his body. A political plot is suspected and a reward is offered for the missing head. As the tension builds, the reward goes up to 5 lakhs. The passengers in the compartment only hear of this, nothing is known for sure. The situation turns both tragic and comic as the night progresses.

The play provides an insight into the topsy-turvy Mumbai life, one that every Mumbaikar can relate to.
