URFE AALO is a full-length anti-caste play in Gujarati that examines the persistence of caste violence and discrimination in urban Gujarat. Set against the backdrop of the bastis (working-class neighborhoods), the play brings the everyday lives of Dalit families to the stage-families whose language, humor, sorrows, and resilience rarely find representation in Gujarati theatre. The stage design, centered on a gutter, challenges the sanitized upper-caste homes that dominate mainstream drama, bringing visibility to the spaces of forced Dalit labor. The play critiques the Bollywood-influenced gaze of dominant-caste representations of bastis and instead offers a nuanced, realistic portrayal of Dalit lives, exposing systemic discrimination while affirming dignity and resistance.
