The story by Bhisham Sahni is about the relationship between two classes of a Punjabi family. Jagga, the servant stays with his wife in a servant quarter. He is loyal to the family. An undesirable incident forces Jagga to commit suicide. While cooking saag meat, Sumitra the protagonist unfolds the truth of Jagga's death.The narration of the story is while cooking Saag Meat, and at the completion of the play, the spectators get the delight of tasting the freshly cooked meal.
