Dr. Dharamveer Bharti is one of the most renowned writers of Hindi literature, whose work has been performed all over the world and has even been translated into various other Indian & foreign languages. His work 'Kanupriya', a collection of poems written from the point of view of Radha, relates her journey of love and emotional growth from a naive, innocent girl to a mature woman.
After the Mahabharata, she questions Lord Krishna about their eternal love, his pivotal role in the Kurukshetra war and the destruction and consequences of war. Her questions, concern and unconditional love leaves the Lord himself, speechless!
To underline this reality of the lyrical 'Kanupriya' and to justify Radha's point of view, the director, Nadira Zaheer Babbar has interwoven scenes from the classic 'Andha Yug' by the same writer.
'Kanupriya' (Radha) personifies devotion, compassion, womanhood whereas 'Andha Yug' is considered to be a moral allegory with a strong antiwar message. The credit for the concept of this play also goes to Pushpa Bhati along with Nadira Zaheer Babbar.
Whether the juxtaposition of not only two different texts (Kanupriya & Andha Yug) but two different genres (Poetry & Drama) works or not is something that could be worth finding out about.
