This time around, the Indian Drama and Entertainment Academy (IDEA) has caught on the ‘Imrana case’ to derive their dramatic plot. Imrana, a poor, rural Muslim’s alleged rape by her father-in-law has received a lot of press coverage. The incident has sparked off the old debate about doing away with the Muslim Personal Law and institutionalizing the Uniform Civil Code instead. Can a fatwa be issued against Imrana is yet another issue.
