Mahabhoj by Mannu Bhandari is a social and political story. It talks about Saroha village, where a Dalit leader named Bisu is killed by powerful goons. He was trying to collect proof against a corrupt landlord, Zoravar. Zoravar was also behind the brutal killing of nine innocent Harijans (a term used for lower-caste people) in a fire attack.
The story shows the reality of politics and the condition of these communities. They are remembered only during elections and are used to get votes. Political parties promise them good education and equal rights, but every year they continue to face unfair treatment and hatred.
The society treats them badly, like prey. They are forced to live under inequality, where power and status matter more than justice and humanity.
