The Indian drama and Entertainment Academy (IDEA)’s play is based on the stories of the famous Hindi writer, Munshi Premchand. The stories adapted from the writer’s work are as follows: ‘Apne Fun Ka Ustaad’, ‘Mashaal-e-Hidayat’, ‘Nok Jhonk’, ‘Panchayat’ and ‘Pachtatva’.
Premchand’s work has often been dramatized for as Amit Rai a biographer puts it: “Premchand created the genre of the serious novel and the serious short story in two languages, Hindi and Urdu.” In IDEA’s adaptation of the stories, a sutradhar (narrator) recount the life and times of the writer Premchand while providing biographical information about each story before it is performed.
