PASHMINA (ZAFER MOHIUDDIN)

By MTG editorial

Writer : Mrinal Mathur
Director : Zafer Mohiuddin

Pashmina is being staged as part of Natya Kumbh. A travelling festival that celebrates drama and the dramatist by staging the works of the playwright, Mrinal Mathur, performed by some of the prominent directors and theatre groups of India. A total of eight plays will be on view between the 4th ,10th and 11th of June, at LTG Auditorium, Delhi.

Pashmina is about an army martyr’s parents, who take a poignant trip to Kashmir, in the shadow of the sorrow of their neighbour, Dr. Kaul. There, accompanied by a garrulous couple, they meet a shopkeeper, who has, just like them, lost his son. They return with a symbol of pathos, reconciliation, closure, and above all; hope – a shawl called Pashmina.

It is directed by Zafer Mohiuddin. An Urdu / Hindi writer, playwright, director, actor, voice over artist, as well as social activist, he has been actively involved in theatre since 1979. He has written dialogues for Malgudi Days. He has appeared in Bikhre Bimb, directed by Girish Karnad. He formed the Kathputliyaan Theatre Group which has been at the forefront of promoting Indian art, particularly theatre in Bengaluru and all over the world. His passion has created some of the most powerful renditions of India’s finest plays
