Based on M.F. Hussains memoir, PENCIL SEY BRUSH TAK portrays the life of world renowned painter M.F. Husain from the very beginning; right from his childhood in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. Despite being Muslim, his grandfather used to sell diyas outside a mandir. Hussain himself spoke Marathi and he grew up watching the Ram Leela with his entire family. He was thus brought up in an environment of secularism in which all religions were equal.
The play proceeds to show how Hussain rose above prejudices and used his art to reflect the cultural diversity of India. His 150 paintings of the Ramayana are considered to be the best in any religious epic series. In his work, one is able to see a blend of cultures. The play as such is a tribute to the famous painter.
