Rangeela Re...

By MTG editorial

'Rangeela Re...'is posed as a hilarious entertainer in Hindi, with six diverse characters played by actor Manoj Joshi. Joshi’s name needs no introduction as he has sought fame with plays like CHANAKYA, GANDHI VIRUDH GANDHI and films like 'Sarfarosh' and 'Chandni Bar'.

The premise of RANGEELA RE... is that a one-man committee comprising publicity seeking Sureshchandra has arranged a function to felicitate the legendary actor Jayshankar Joshi. The actor is delayed due to various reasons.

Meanwhile five other characters interrupt the show before his arrival. Manoj, being a versatile actor, performs the characters of a young dude, in Channel V fashion, of "Kokilaben"- an NRI Gujju housewife, of "Wong Tung Pin Pin" - a Mongolian prince, of "Paandoba Waghmare" – a tiffin deliveryman, of "Chanakya" – a historical character and finally of "Jayshankar Joshi" – a veteran actor aged 87 years. Following is the list of the characters performed by Manoj Joshi with some details of each character’s bearing on the play.

Chanakya: A scene is performed from the play "Chanakya", supposedly staged by Jayshankar Joshi in the year 1940, to commemorate Jayshankar Joshi’s achievements as an actor.

Prince Wong Tun Pinpin: The chief guest of the function is Prince Wong Tun Pinpin from an unknown, revolution torn state of Far East. He is oblivious to the political scene back home and is occupied in small talks about the two loves of his life, Hindi language and an Indian girl he is married to.

Paandoba Waghmare: As a president of the Dabawaala Association, Paandoba Waghmare wears a Silk Kurta. He has been to England to attend the marriage of Prince Charles and ‘Bhabhi’ and narrates the experience in his abrasive tongue. He has been called to start with the preparations of the Shraddhanjali program, which is after the felicitation function.

Kokilaben Lomummba: Happily married to a gorilla of a man from a fictitious African island called Jibraniya, where the couple’s favorite pass-time is giraffe riding. A mother of six, whose offspring love to eat tree leaves and have names such as Luganda and Mombassa, wins a lottery and comes on the stage to claim the prize.

Vikram from Channel V: who loves to be called Channel-V and claims to be the greatest rap artist of India. He is the grand son of Jayshankar Joshi but has no regards for the legendary actor-singer of yester years. Comes to inform his grandpa that there is no one at home to welcome him and that his stay has been arranged in a hotel nearby.

Jayshankar Joshi: This 87 years old veteran actor and classical singer comes to his felicitation function after facing a great ordeal on his way... as in his life! This character depicts the intrinsic pathos of old age.
