When did you get your first break? Remembering her passed memories she replied, "I had compered a legal program of stage and then I got a chance to work in 100 a Marathi series on Doordarshan.
Were you sure of joining the film industry ? she smiled and said, no not at all, I did my law and got married in a joint family and was not at all keen to join this industry, I have not even taken lessons on acting from any school.
No acting school still doing very well? Looking up she said, May be gods gift.
Being a known character artist was it difficult to manage between home and career. As I lived in a joint family they were very supportive and encouraging. In the initial days of work, the load was not much & I could spend time with my family. It was only after privatization of channel the work load increased & during that time my both the sons were grown up, thus I always did justice between work and relation.
Is any of your sons influenced by the industry? Yes, my elder son is learning Film-Making in New York.
As you have worked with senior and junior artist, do you feel any difference? Definitely, in case of juniors I make them comfortable and in case of seniors it is vice versa .
What do you find more challenging Stage or Film? There is more stress on stage, because stage is performing live without any cuts.
As you are playing Aai in this play, Do people compare you with Jaya Bachchan (who played Aai in the same Hindi version) ? No people do not compare me! In case of Jaya Bachchan the version is in Hindi which is a manic and in case of Bhakti Barve the play was stopped 12 years back. There was a generation gap so people did not remember the previous ones, I was never compared.
The roles, which touched you personally. In films the role in Hum Dil De Chuke Saman and in serials Ghutan and Raahat and the roles I am looking forward to be my best is in Devdas and Laagi Prem Lagan. My forthcoming films are Na Tum Rahe Na Hum, Pyaasa.
Something about your hobbies? I have done everything from painting to singing everything.
Are you looking forward to continue with the same play or concentrate more on others? No I remove time for this because this really touches my heart and looking forward to do many shows for the same & rahi doosre play ki baat I am not doing more than funny things called love and this.
Do you have to do same homework before performing a mothers role? No not at all, as I am a mother of two, I am understanding things very well and do it easily. I consider the younger actors and actresses to be the same like my sons and daughters. And may be because of this they call me Mom on set & off set.
Being particular about language and diction she wants to do her best on stage and off stage. All the best.
