BHARAT KA LADLA DEENDAYAL, is a theatrical exploration of the life, ideology, and value-driven journey of Deendayal Upadhyaya.
It is a biographical representation, portraying his journey from a life marked by personal struggles to becoming a thinker, philosopher, and influential figure associated with nation-building and value-based leadership. Rooted in themes of simplicity, discipline, sacrifice, and service, the play explores his ideological vision of "Integral Humanism" and presents his belief that the progress of a nation lies in the balanced growth of society, guided by humanity and moral values.
Paresh Bhatt portrayed Deendayal Upadhyaya perfectly and mesmerized the audience by creating the aura and presence of Panditji on stage. The rest of the ensemble, Mahek Bhatt, Omkar Tirodkar, Pratik Sharma, Parth Soni, Hemanksh Vaishnav, Pratik Patel, Krushan Doshi, Amisha Pradhan, Rajdeep Gadher, and Jaivardhan Panchal brought remarkable energy and versatility to the stage, seamlessly slipping into multiple characters and adding depth, emotion, and theatrical dynamism to the narrative.
Through dramatized moments from his life, the play explores his personal struggles, ideological convictions, association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and interactions with prominent personalities such as Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Madhav Sadashivrao Golwalkar. The narrative further highlights themes of governance, nationalism, development, and national unity while portraying Upadhyaya’s contribution toward shaping modern Indian political thought.
The production design followed a grand commercial theatre format, with a large LED screen at the centre that effectively projected apt backgrounds, visually appealing imagery, spiritual symbolism, and historical references throughout the performance. The use of a revolving set helped the narrative transition smoothly across different locations and timelines, adding movement and scale to the staging. The music carried an epic orchestral quality, while the title track instantly grabbed attention and lingered in the mind even after the performance concluded.
Writer Prayag Dave reportedly spent six months researching the subject through nearly fourteen books, and the detailing reflects in the writing. Director Pritesh Sodha handled the material with restraint, allowing the events and ideological discussions to unfold without excessive dramatization, trusting the weight of the documented history itself. The costumes complemented the changing timelines effectively, while the lighting design enhanced both the spiritual undertones and dramatic moments of the production.
As stated at the opening of the play, the makers present the production as a theatrical exploration rather than an agenda-driven statement. The audience is presented with a series of emotionally charged monologues, spiritual reflections, historical references, and philosophical discussions surrounding the life of Deendayal Upadhyaya, while also introducing the core thought of Ekatma Manavvad (Integral Humanism).
