Going to a comedy play in English does not always sounds exciting but when you come to know that it is an adaptation of the popular movie 'Cactus flower' that certainly raises some expectations. Directed and produced by Vandana Sajnani 'Please Divorce me darling' is also the vehicle through which fame actress Rati Agnihotri sets her feet on stage for the very first time. The story revolves around a middle-aged dentist who finds himself kooky over a young girl while his nurse finds herself falling for him. Rati plays Ingrid Bergman's part in the play while Vandana does the Goldie Hawn and Rajesh Khattar plays the dentist in distress.

The play is ditto to the movie if one has seen it; Raj Khanna (Rajesh Khattar) runs his clinic with the efficient help of his nurse cum assistant Shalini Sharma (Rati Agnihotri). Raj is an easygoing bachelor dentist who is stringing along his dizzy frizzy haired girlfriend Pooja (Vandana Sajnani) by letting her believe that he is married and has two kids. The pieces start falling apart when he learns that Pooja had tried to commit suicide due to his highhandedness. On the spur of emotions he commits to marry Pooja, who refuses to be a home-wrecker. Pooja insists upon meeting his Raj's wife before she could decide upon anything. Poor Raj is now left with to find one fictitious wife for himself and that he does get by convincing Shalini- his starched, no-nonsense receptionist- to pose as his wife. Reluctant Shalini agrees but this leads to situations that surprise Raj himself. To cover his one lie he goes on to other and other and Shalini backs him but in turn due to some misunderstanding falls for Raj. In an attempt to prove that Shalini is a nymphomaniac she is to flirt with their scrooge Sindhi client Munna then Arab Sheikh and Pooja's neighbor Jimmy. All these leave to wacky situations, which complicates further already bewildered ladies' man. What happens next? Find out for yourself in Divorce me darling.

Rati steals the show with her portrayal stoic and firm nurse who emerge from her shell as the play proceeds. She effortlessly manages her way by the accented and flawless English. The swapping of sets from dispensary to a disco is quick. Vandana as the wacko girl friend is good while various actors like Naved Aslam, Farhaan Khan and Hilla Sethna keep the humor alive with their ambiguity and gags. Rajesh Khattar does a good job as the helpless and hapless dentist. Vandana's theatrical adaptation is neat and he has tried to add some additional flavor to the narrative. The outcome is sassy and saucy making Divorce me darling a must see so what are you waiting for? Soon grab your tickets.
