Meher Acharia Dar Actor [Hindi, English, Parsi-Gujarati Theatre ]
Which is the last best play you saw? ILA directed by Puja Sarup and Sheena Khalid.
Your favourite 'adda' to see a play Prithvi Theatre.
Your favourite playwright Abhishek Majumdar.
Your favourite play-character The favourite play that I have been part of was THE DJINNS OF EIDGAH, written by Abhishek Majumdar and directed by Richard Twyman (of the Royal Court Theatre, London). The character I played of Dr. Wani in the play is the favourite character I have played thus far.
Looking beyond that, I think Juliet from ROMEO AND JULIET, written by William Shakespeare is my favourite character too.
A play you would like to see filmed. Why? Rage Productions' DJINNS OF EIDGAH because it died a very premature death and I just wish it had reached out to many more people before it faded away!
A novel/short story you would like to see on stage? Why? 'Cuckold' by Kiran Nagarkar or any of the short stories from 'Tales from Firosha Baug' by Rohinton Mistry. The reason being that both the books are universal, timeless and my absolute favourites!
The most hilarious play you have seen QTP's PROJECT S.T.R.I.P. written by Ram Ganesh Kamatham, and directed by Quasar Thakore Padamsee
A play, which is over-hyped I don't think any play is over hyped. It's not fair for me to comment on any as such. Each production deserves publicity to bring in audiences.
An important play (but ignored) Rage's DJINNS OF EIDGAH that highlights the Kashmir problem as it exists today but it isn't being performed anymore.
A play character you would like to ''dialogue'' with Archbishop Monsignor Oscar Romero from QTP's A PEASANT OF EL SALADOR directed by Quasar. To talk about peace in these crazily violent times!
A passage from an important play that you can recite I must confess.... I have very bad memory!!
A classical play that you should have read MERCHANT OF VENICE by William Shakespeare.
A play that changed your perception about the theatre TARANTULA TANZI in which Karla Singh and Shiamak Davar performed. It was directed by Alyque Padamsee.
How do you regard the Mumbai theatre scene? It's my bread and butter, my passion and my raison d' etre!! It is also vibrant, varied and very under-paid! I wish the actors could make enough money to not have to do anything else! For that, we need to explore many many more venues and have an audience that pays even 1/5th for Indian productions than what it pays for visiting foreign productions.
Can you think of a foreign production that you found remarkable? Why? A DISAPPEARING NUMBER by Complicite and Simon McBurney, for its use of multimedia in the production.
Your favourite director/actor/music or set designer Director: Pearl Padamsee. Actor: Also Pearl Padamsee and the great Gerson Da Cunha. Set Design: Shama Shah.
A significant Indian production that you may have witnessed HAYAVADAN by The Industrial Theatre Co, written by Girish Karnad and directed by Pushan Kripalani and Arghya Lahiri.
Life in the theatre without the humble batata-wada or the cutting chai... or can you recall the best gastronomic experience you've had in the precincts of the theatre to date? My favourite theatre gastronomic meal is still the humble chutney sandwich and cold and hot coffee at Tata Theatre, whether while rehearsing or watching a performance!
