The play 'Ballabhpur ki Roopkatha' by Badal Sircar is based on age-old legacy of the city of Ballabhpur. Ramapati Ray Bhuyan's grandson Bhupati Ray Bhuyan has carried forward their family legacy and holds their 400 years old palace. With time his financial conditions deteriorates and he plans to sell off the palace. He faces a big challenge and is unable to do so because the palace is haunted by his grandfather's soul.

He plans to shift to Kolkata and set up dentistry with one of his friends Sanjeev. But situation becomes so worse that there is not even a single person in the town from whom Bhupati hasn't take credit. Now to settle his dues he has to sell the palace anyhow.

After several attempts he manages to get a buyer named Mr. Haaldar. He plans to pretend as a royal King and takes help of his creditors to become his royal staff, so that he can impress Mr. Haaldar.
