Umesh Shukla and Bharat Thakkar, who have produced Ahemdabad based Saumya Joshi's WELCOME ZINDAGI are proud people. They wish to promote better plays for the commercial Gujarati stage; their KANJEE VIRUDDH KANJEE being another recent example. To produce an off-beat play with no known actors and with no frills is no easy task for the commercial Gujarati stage. The producers were skeptical but they believed in Saumya and they feel that Saumya has made their dream come true.
For the last one year they were after Saumya to write a play and they consider his writing to be brilliant. They wanted to make a break with routine formula plays that 'click' and recycled social comedies. When Saumya Joshi told them he was ready with the first half and two scenes from the second half of the play, they immediately booked their air tickets to Ahemdabad.
As far as the balance between the economics of the Gujarati stage business and theatre aesthetics goes, the two producers are more convinced about having a good play and they feel that if they can reach a larger audience with work that is good and meaningful, the economics will sort itself out.
