The prestigious Balshastri Jambhekar Award for translation has been awarded to theatre and film artiste Omkar Govardhan for Rangmanchkala.

Rangmanchkala is a Marathi translation of An Art Of The Stage, originally written by the famous Russian theatre practitioner Konstantin Stanislavski.

The award carries a memento and a cash prize.

Omkar Govardhan who has also staged Ramu Ramanathan's MADHEVBHAI (1892-1942) in Marathi, shares: "This award is satisfying for various reasons. Bal Shastri Jambekar, Sane Guruji and poet Vinda Karandikar are the three names I am going to be associated with. These people are avid translators. They loved language and were deeply active about the overall development of the Marathi language. This is a not so known book by Stanislavski. It does not talk about technique much. It talks about the mindset with which one should approach a creative work. It contains 30 chapters and one appendix on theatre ethics. Along with it I have also written a note on Stanislavski and his times and work."

The book has been published by Rajhans Publications. It is available in book stores all over Maharashtra and can be ordered online.
