The Magic of Theatre -- The Joy of TrainingTheatre Workshop by Vijaya Mehta...

Vijaya Mehta, founder of the path-breaking Rangayan movement of the sixties (that created and fostered a new breed of playwrights, actors, directors and production-designers), will conduct a special intensive 2-day workshop for actors. The workshop takes place in collaboration with Pancham Nishad and supported by Every Tuesday and Mantra Foundation in the service of the arts.

Having acted and directed plays, films and TV productions in Marathi and Hindi many of them award winners -- Vijaya Mehta was one of the earliest to take her theatre productions overseas. She also directed German actors in Indian plays, both contemporary and classical. To direct actors of another and completely foreign culture," she believes, "is always a challenge since it requires training as much as direction. Her approach to training actors in India has always been found illuminating and rewarding by several leading actors and stars (who have worked as her apprentices and students). Winner of several National and International awards for her works in theatre, films and TV, Vijaya Mehta is the recipient of the Padmashree, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Kalidas Samman, Rashtrapati Puraskar, and the Maharashtra Gaurav.

The workshop will be restricted to 20 active participants and around 200 observers. The workshop will focus on Actors and acting but will also be of great value to directors, as it will explore a vital allied area : Handling of actors. After each session there will be a question-and-answer session in which the observers will participate to evolve a concept for future workshops.

Venue: Experimental Theatre

Tue. 20th & Wed. 21st 10:00 am to 5:15 pm
