The International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFOK) 2027 has announced its call for entries for the 17th edition, scheduled to take place from February 21 to 28, 2027, in Thrissur, Kerala. Organised by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, the festival will explore the thought-provoking theme 'Imagining Justice', inviting theatre artists, directors and groups to examine questions of justice, accountability and social responsibility through performance. Entries open on October 23, 2026, at 12:30 PM IST, and submissions will close on November 23, 2026, at 12:30 PM IST. The festival offers an opportunity for Indian and international theatre practitioners to present creative works that engage with contemporary social realities.

The curatorial theme, 'Imagining Justice', explores how theatre can become a space for questioning power, reflecting on social inequalities and amplifying voices that often remain unheard. At a time when conversations around civil liberties, institutional accountability and the right to protest continue to shape public discourse, ITFOK 2027 encourages artists to imagine possibilities beyond existing systems. As the festival's curatorial statement observes, "Theatre does not necessarily deliver justice; it can, however, make its absence impossible to ignore." Through performances and artistic exchanges, the festival aims to encourage meaningful dialogue between artists and audiences, highlighting theatre's ability to inspire reflection, empathy and collective understanding.

Theatre groups, independent artists, institutions, and student performers interested in participating in ITFOK 2027 can submit their applications through the festival's official website, https://theatrefestivalkerala.com/. Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the submission guidelines and ensure their proposed productions respond to the festival's central theme. With its focus on artistic expression, critical inquiry and cultural exchange, ITFOK 2027 promises to bring together diverse theatrical perspectives. For Indian theatre artists and enthusiasts, the festival presents an opportunity to engage with performances that explore the relationship between theatre, society and the pursuit of justice. The last date to submit entries is November 23, 2026.
