Yatri has the distinction of being one of the oldest Hindi theatre groups in India. Its Artistic Director Om Katare founded the group in 1979. Since then Yatri has produced a variety of plays for adults as well as children.
This is a special year for its annual festival-the Yatri Rang Mahotsav as the group recently celebrated its 29th anniversary. The festival this year will be held in three phases and will play right through the entire year with 100 shows at 6 venues. The first phase of the festival kickstarts from 3rd January 2009.
This year Yatri will also premiere four new plays. The festival will open with Sharad Joshis hilarious political satire EK THA GADHA URF ALLADAD KHAN, which also happens to be Yatris milestone production staged way back in 1979.
