Mumbai, India INT Aditya Birla Centre for Performing Arts Production brings to the stage a breathtaking collision of Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy and the pulsating energy of 1970s Bombay in its new production of ROMEO & JULIET.

In this daring reinterpretation, Shakespeare’s most iconic lovers find themselves caught in a world of filmi glamour, gang rivalries, and disco-lit nights. The city, alive with swagger and danger, becomes both the playground and the battlefield for their forbidden love. When Romeo of the Montagues first locks eyes with Juliet of the Capulets, it’s love at first sight and war at first breath. Their passion ignites a chain of events that tears through Bollywood backlots and tapori street showdowns, bold enough to set an entire city ablaze.

Directed by Glenn Hayden, adapted by Priyanka Charan, and featuring an original score by Andrew Mackay, this production fuses Shakespearean poetry with the raw, electric pulse of Bambaiyya street life. The result is a high-voltage theatrical experience that celebrates both the grandeur of Shakespeare and the grit of Mumbai’s cinematic past.

With an ensemble of exceptionally talented Indian actors, this version of ROMEO & JULIET is as tragic as it is electric blending passion, rebellion, and heartbreak into one unforgettable spectacle.

“Old love story. New city. Same explosive ending.”
This adaptation doesn’t just break the rules of classic storytelling it rewrites them for a new generation of Indian theatre lovers, creators, and dreamers.

Tragic. Electric. Unmissable.
