The Ranga Shankara Theatre Festival 2026 has officially announced its call for applications, inviting theatre groups, production houses, directors and performers from across India to submit works for its upcoming edition.

This year's festival theme, "Belonging: Through Memory, Migration, and Boundaries," encourages theatre-makers to examine how individuals and communities understand belonging. The festival seeks performances that explore coexistence, interdependence, shared histories, migration and the social and political forces that shape people’s identities.

The selected productions may reflect on the journeys people undertake in search of a home, livelihood, opportunity or acceptance. Theatre-makers can also explore different kinds of boundaries, including physical, cultural, political, emotional, social and personal boundaries. These boundaries may divide communities, create connections or transform how people live together.

Through this theme, the festival aims to create conversations about care, inclusion and collective responsibility. Indian theatre groups and performers are encouraged to present works that invite audiences to question how memories, places and inherited histories influence their understanding of themselves and others.
