Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will celebrate the richness of Gujarati language, literature and performance this August with three distinctive productions at the Godrej Dance Theatre. Featuring oral storytelling, mono-acts and original theatrical works, the programme brings together acclaimed writers, performers and theatre-makers for a vibrant tribute to Gujarati culture.

The celebrations begin on August 9 with DASTANGOI GUJARATI at 4:30 pm. Presented by NCPA Off-Stage in collaboration with Utopia Communications, the production blends Gujarati literature with the traditional Persian art of dastangoi. Stories by P. L. Deshpande, Varsha Adalja, Pallavi Mistry and Bharti Rane will be performed by Vidhi Chitalia, Abhikalp Gagdekar, Rinku Patel and Medha Antani.

Later that evening at 7:30 pm, BOLYU CHALYU MAAF will showcase Gujarat’s linguistic diversity through four mono-acts performed in different regional dialects. With one performer and one microphone, the production explores humour, emotion and regional identity through works by Dr. Khevana Desai, Saumya Joshi, Dilip Rawal and Bhagyesh Jha.

On August 27 at 7:30 pm, GAMTA NO KARIYE GULAL " SEASON 2 will mark Vishwa Gujarati Diwas and the birth anniversary of Veer Narmad. Presented in collaboration with Theatrix, the evening features five original theatrical pieces exploring humour, relationships, dreams and colourful characters.

From traditional forms to fresh contemporary writing, the programme highlights the versatility and continuing evolution of Gujarati theatre.

Together, the three productions offer theatre lovers an engaging journey through Gujarati storytelling, language and contemporary stagecraft.
