For over a decade, Loksatta Lokankik has been at the forefront of nurturing young talent in the theatre world. Designed as a platform to empower emerging theatre practitioners, the initiative has given countless students an opportunity to learn, perform, and grow under the mentorship of experienced artists. This year, through Loksatta Rangsamvad, the initiative continues to enrich the artistic journey of young theatre enthusiasts with insightful guidance, workshops, and interactive sessions led by acclaimed theatre veterans.
One of the key highlights of this year’s event is its holistic structure. Divided into the drama division, experimental theatre division, and experimental acting festival, the competition brings together a vibrant mix of performances. Students showcased their creativity through the theme “Sangamyatra" Experiences and Reflections” under the Loksatta Rangkunj segment. This theme encouraged participants to explore complex emotional landscapes, social contexts, and personal narratives.
The initiative received added depth with the presence of renowned writers and directors, who interacted closely with participants. Their real-world experiences, creative insights, and professional challenges offered young theatre aspirants a rare opportunity to understand the craft beyond textbooks. These interactions were not merely lectures but dialogues - "bridging the gap between emerging talent and seasoned professionals.
The invited artists of Loksatta Lokankik also brought value through practical demonstrations. They shared hands-on experimental techniques, backstage stories, and nuanced stagecraft secrets that often take years to learn. Their sessions under the Loksatta Rangkunj banner left a lasting impression on participants, who gained clarity and confidence in their creative process.
A major attraction was the session by veteran theatre artist Pradeep Bhagwat, a respected figure in the Marathi theatre world. With decades of experience, Bhagwat offered participants a detailed understanding of the evaluation process involved in theatre competitions. His insights into narrative structure, character development, and stage dynamics proved invaluable for young artists trying to refine their skills. His anecdotes and personal experiences added authenticity and inspiration to the learning process.
The second session of Loksatta Rangkunj saw an impressive lineup of 14 teams presenting their theatrical pieces. These performances reflected a new generation of theatre practitioners who showcased remarkable coordination across writing, direction, acting, dance, and costume design. This synergy highlighted just how vigorously the youth are embracing the theatre landscape, bringing fresh ideas and innovative narratives to the stage.
Further enriching the festival are two highly anticipated interactions with celebrated figures from the theatre and entertainment industry.
On December 4, acclaimed playwright, actor, and director Abhiram Bhadkamkar will engage with participants. A National School of Drama graduate and recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2017), Bhadkamkar has contributed extensively to Marathi and Hindi theatre and cinema. His works - "such as Asa Balasaheb, Ishaallahalla” and Chudail - "have earned critical and commercial recognition, while many of his plays have been translated into multiple Indian languages. His session promises to offer deep insights into storytelling, screenwriting, and performance techniques.
Earlier, on December 3, the dynamic actor-writer-director Advait Dadarkar will interact with theatre lovers. Known for his impactful performances in Majhya Vancharya Baykochi” and Rama Madhav, as well as his direction in plays like Bala Ek Gudgudita Aahe and Shivpratap Gelo Ek, Dadarkar has swiftly made his mark in the theatre community. His experience across diverse media platforms, including the emerging digital platform E-Talkies, makes him particularly relevant to the new generation of theatre aspirants.
Loksatta Rangsamvad stands today not just as a competition, but as a creative movement that continues to uplift, educate, and inspire young talent. Through expert mentorship and meaningful interaction, it is helping shape the future custodians of Indian theatre.
