A new Gujarati musical drama, LAGNA - The Musical, will be staged on January 24 at Aspee Auditorium, Malad West, Mumbai. Performed in Gujarati, the two-hour production combines traditional wedding songs with modern theatrical elements to connect younger audiences with Gujarati cultural heritage.
Produced by Parth Bharat Thakkar and Jui Parth, LAGNA - The Musical focuses on the declining familiarity of the current generation with Gujarati lagna geets. The show presents these traditional songs in a contemporary format while retaining their cultural essence.
The musical features 16 songs, including four original compositions. Live performances are delivered by singers Jahnvi Shrimankar and Parth Bharat Thakkar, accompanied by one musician. The cast includes actors Ojas Rawal, Vyoma Nandi, and Hitarth Joshi. The production is directed by Pritesh Sodha and written by Amatya Goradia.
A key feature of the production is its interactive format. Live LED screens are used to create visual environments and display song lyrics, allowing audience members to participate by singing along during several segments of the performance. The creators describe this approach as an effort to transform the audience into an active chorus rather than passive viewers.
Presented by Aasif Patel, LAGNA - The Musical blends music, drama, and audience engagement to depict themes of marriage, tradition, and generational change. The show aims to offer a theatrical experience that bridges the gap between cultural legacy and contemporary sensibilities.
The performance is scheduled for January 24, 2026, at 9:00 pm at Aspee Auditorium, Malad West, Mumbai.
