Ekjute Celebrates 45 Years of Theatre with Special Festival at Prithvi Theatre

Mumbai’s theatre community is set to witness a special celebration as Ekjute Theatre Group marks 45 years of its journey with “हम। आप। रंगमंच। 45 Years!” From 22nd to 27th September 2026 at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai, the group will celebrate more than four decades of storytelling, performances, and its long-standing relationship with audiences. The festival will bring seven prominent Ekjute productions to the stage, making the occasion a celebration not only of the theatre group but also of the people who have supported its journey.

Founded by renowned theatre personality Nadira Zaheer Babbar, Ekjute has grown into one of the recognised names in Indian theatre. What began as a passionate commitment to the stage 45 years ago has developed into an expansive theatre movement. Over the years, the group has presented more than 100 plays, while over 5,000 actors and students have learnt, trained, worked and interacted with Nadira Zaheer Babbar. Its productions have also reached audiences running into lakhs across generations.

The newly unveiled identity, “हम। आप। रंगमंच। 45 Years!”, reflects the relationship between artists, theatre, and audiences that has shaped Ekjute’s story. At the heart of the celebration is a simple thought: "The group’s journey belongs as much to its audiences as it does to the artists who have created and performed on stage. Their continued love, faith, and encouragement have helped Ekjute keep creating, experimenting, and performing.

The six-day celebration at Prithvi Theatre offers theatre lovers an opportunity to revisit some of Ekjute’s prominent works and experience its theatrical legacy on stage.
