In an era where theatre is constantly evolving, psychological dramas continue to hold a mirror to the human mind. Theatre group Trraance is set to present BIKHRE BIMB, a compelling play by legendary playwright Girish Karnad, directed by Barun Siinha.

At its core, BIKHRE BIMB delves into themes of mental health, identity, sexuality, and the silent conflicts within human relationships. Director Barun Siinha believes that such narratives never lose relevance. "Themes concerning the human psyche stand the test of time. They allow audiences to connect deeply, either by identifying with the characters or by exploring their own unspoken emotions," he shares.

What makes this production particularly intriguing is its stylistic approach. While staying true to Karnad's original text, the team has introduced visual elements like a television set to blur the lines between reality and imagination. This layered storytelling promises a rich and immersive theatrical experience.

The play is a one-act, one-performer narrative, led by actor Laju Mehta, who takes on the complex role of Manjula Nayak. The story follows Nayak, a Kannada writer who unexpectedly gains fame after publishing a novel in English. While success comes swiftly, it leaves her emotionally conflicted, questioning her choices and feeling disconnected from her roots.

For Mehta, the character is both challenging and deeply relatable. "It is an exploration of the subtle struggles of the mind that each of us experiences. Manjula is layered, vulnerable, and real," she says.

Originally envisioned as a reading, the production gradually evolved into a full stage performance, driven by the creative energy of the team.

For Indian theatre lovers and performers alike, BIKHRE BIMB offers not just a story, but an introspective journey into the fragmented reflections of the self.
