The National School of Drama, New Delhi, is getting ready to open a new production, enforcing all COVID precautions, including compulsory masks-wearing for the audience and properly distanced seating in the open air venue. The actors have been tested for the virus, and the stage will be sanitized before every show

According to the NSD website, three shows of PEHLA SATYAGRAHI, on the life of Mahatma Gandhi will be staged. The play written by Ravindra Tripathy and directed by Suresh Sharma marks the Mahatma’s birth anniversary. Shows are scheduled for the evening of October 2, 3 and 4, with a nominal ticket rate of Rs 50. Tickets have to be booked online, and only 100 seats are available.

During the lockdown, while most theatre companies have been experimenting with the online space, going by the response to this initiative, the immediate future of live performances in a pandemic-hit country would be gauged.
