MTG is saddened by the passing of theatre veteran Gurcharan Singh Channi earlier this week, after a long battle with Covid. A National School of Drama alumnus and Fulbright Scholar, he was a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for community theatre.
The Chandigarh-based filmmaker, writer, director, actor and street theatre activist, wrote plays like DAFA 144 and ZINDAGI RETIRE NAHIN HOTI, and was Director of the Centre for Education & Voluntary Action (CEVA). He is survived by his wife Harleen Kohli and children Sukhmani and Gyan Dev, all of whom are involved with theatre.
Saddened to learn of Gurcharan Channi Ji’s demise. He was a talented actor-director & theatre personality who raised very pertinent social issues. My condolences to his family & associates and I wish his wife, who is still undergoing #Covid19 treatment, a speedy recovery.
