MTG is saddened by the passing of theatre veteran Gurcharan Singh Channi earlier this week, after a long battle with Covid. A National School of Drama alumnus and Fulbright Scholar, he was a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for community theatre.

The Chandigarh-based filmmaker, writer, director, actor and street theatre activist, wrote plays like DAFA 144 and ZINDAGI RETIRE NAHIN HOTI, and was Director of the Centre for Education & Voluntary Action (CEVA). He is survived by his wife Harleen Kohli and children Sukhmani and Gyan Dev, all of whom are involved with theatre.
