What happens when two old friends, one inspired by the other, sit together? Two such friends are about to find that out at The Drama School Mumbai (DSM). Acclaimed theatre director Mohit Takalkar and his younger counterpart Aalok Rajwade will be part of the fifth instalment of the Rekha Sabnis Memorial Series.

Mohit Takalkar's GAJAB KAHANI opened in May in Mumbai and is an adaptation of the late Jose de Sousa Saramago's novel The Elephant's Journey (2008). Takalkar has experimented with form in it, choosing a black box intimate theatre experience over the traditional proscenium stage. Not only that, the play also has the audience sit in the centre while the play takes place all around them.

Previously Takalkar has staged other noteworthy plays such as YAYATI, MEIN HUUN YUSUF AUR YE HAI MERA BHAI, F-1/105, UNEY PUREY SHAHAR EK, COMRADE KUMBHAKARNA, KASHMIR KASHMIR, among others. Takalkar has received awards and recognition, such as the Bismillah Khan Sangeet Natak Award, Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award (META), Sahitya Rangbhoomi Fellowship, Zee Gaurav Puraskar, Maharashtra State Award amongst others.

The thespian will share his experience, insights and his thoughts during this conversation with Aalok Rajwade. Rajwade, who knows Takalkar for over a decade now, has seen his growth closely. Takalkar has often acted mentor to Rajwade's career, and that is what makes this combination unmissable. Rajwade himself has directed and acted in critically acclaimed plays like BINKAMACHE SANVAD, DALAN, and SINDHU SUDHAKAR RUM AANI ITAR.

The interview, part of the Rekha Sabnis Memorial Series, is an initiative of The Drama School Mumbai (the DSM), which has been active in theatre training and education for over four years now.

The conversation will take place at The Drama School Mumbai, on 19th August 2017, at 7 pm. The event is a free entry event.
