For every theatre lover in Mumbai, this is a performance worth experiencing. SITA BANBAS by Ank Theatre Group will be staged at the Royal Opera House on 2nd May 2026 at 7:30 PM. The show also marks 49 years of ANK and pays tribute to its Founder-Director, Dinesh Thakur.
Directed by Atul Tiwari, this play is based on Agha Hashar Kashmiri's powerful 1928 retelling of the Uttar Ramayan. It presents a fresh and emotional view of Sita’s life, focusing on her strength, pain, and search for identity.
The story begins when Sita, after everything she has endured, is once again sent away by Ram. This decision raises difficult questions about duty, love, and justice. As a viewer, you are drawn into Sita’s emotional journey and her silent strength.
Years later, her sons Luv and Kush challenge Ram's authority, leading to a powerful moment of truth and confrontation. But at its heart, the play belongs to Sita. She is shown not just as a queen or wife, but as a woman seeking her own path and freedom.
With grand sets, beautiful costumes, music, and strong performances, the play brings back the magic of Parsi theatre in a modern way. SITA BANBAS promises an evening of powerful storytelling, emotions, and thought-provoking moments that stay with you long after the curtain falls
