TOM & JERRY Play Brings Laugh Riot to Stage, Stars Share Insights in Exclusive Interview

Indian theatre audiences have a fresh reason to look forward to live entertainment as actors Aasif Sheikh and Ali Asgar come together for the comedy play TOM & JERRY. In a recent video interview, the duo opened up about the play, their process, and what makes this production a must-watch for theatre lovers.

Described as a situational comedy filled with misunderstandings, the play unfolds over the course of a single night, where two characters meet for the first time and get entangled in a series of comic conflicts. As Aasif Sheikh explains, "There is a lot of situational comedy… misunderstandings lead to conflict, and eventually to a strong emotional climax."

For Aasif Sheikh, this project marks a significant milestone, as it is his first commercial comedy play after years in television and cinema. Calling it a learning experience, he shared, "An actor is like wet clay… my process is to keep learning. The day you feel you know everything, you are done."

Ali Asgar highlighted the essence of theatre as teamwork over individual stardom. "We never try to stand out. It's about the totality. My action works only if he reacts," he said, emphasizing the importance of collaboration on stage.

The actors also spoke about the evolving nature of theatre, where performances are constantly refined based on audience reactions. The immediacy of feedback, they noted, keeps performers "on their toes" and drives them to improve with every show.
