Arun Kakade or Kakade kaka as he was popularly known was the life force behind the Marathi theatre group Awishkar, an institution in itself with an illustrious history behind it.

He passed away on 9th October 2019. He was 88 years old.

He was among the last of his generation that set the tone for experimental theatre in Mumbai in the sixties and seventies. He was a true-blue thespian and a soldier of the cause never tiring, never giving up inspite of numerous challenges and personal setbacks.

He had been ailing for a while. He is survived by his daughter-in-law and grandson, but he belonged to a much bigger family at Awishkar and outside.

We at Mumbai Theatre Guide were fortunate to interact with Kakade kaka on various occasions. We shall miss him.
