Ghanshyam Nayak, most popular for his role as Nattu Kaka in the TV series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, died of cancer at the age of 77.

Nayak had acted in several films and TV serials, but also did over a 100 Gujarati plays. He came from a theatre background, his father and grandfather were stage actors too. He had tapered off his theatre work, however, due to financial compulsions and also because he felt the quality was deteriorating. He had said in an interview to indiatimes.com, "Earlier, there was good literature that was involved and there was depth in the script of most plays. Today, we need better content and to ensure that, Gujarati theatre badly needs better writers. I am hopeful that we will get more good plays in the near future."

He is survived by his wife and three children. Ghanshyam Nayak, RIP.
