The National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), in association with Vinod and Saryu Doshi Foundation presents the 5th edition of its multi-lingual theatre festival of premiering plays in Mumbai. Every year, the Centrestage festival makes an effort to introduce something new, in terms of form or style or storytelling. This year's selection features an eclectic mix of genres, languages and styles of theatre. There's something for everyone, ranging from Musical to Comedy, Social Dramas to Children's plays and Dance Theatre to Devised Theatre.
This year, the 10-day festival will include 14 premiering plays in English, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi presented by Indian as well as UK based theatre groups. Some of the flagship plays to watch out for are: the opening play JUG JUG JIYO with its strong social message, THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, a contemporary spin on Nikolai Gogol's 1836 satire; Shabana Azmi performs in HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUNITA by the award winning Rifco Arts and Watford Palace; YERMA, a Kathak interpretation of Federico Garcia Lorca's classic play. The festival also invites participants to 'Inside Out - Acting Workshop', an acting workshop in collaboration with Alok Ulfat. The finale is the charming one-woman show, based on a Bhisham Sahni story, SAAG MEAT by Seema Pahwa, which is by registration/invitation only-audiences get to dine on the food the actress cooks during the performance.
