MTG editorial

"Identification with the position of the artist matters," says Navjot Altaf emphatically. "Political decisions made by the artist explicate her/his aesthetics."

Junoon's "Mumbai Local" invites Navjot Altaf - a visual artist working in multimedia to share with her thoughts and questions on the politics of artistic practices, the nature of research, collaborative and participative practice, and the politics of inclusion.

Many years ago, Navjot Altaf journeyed into Bastar on the invitation of Jaidev Baghel , a well-known adivasi artist, to his arts centre Shilpi Gram. This marked the beginning of her interaction with indigenous artists and the local community members, which has since grown in strength.

You can look forward to an evening of asking critical questions about life and Navjot Altaf's art practice, her belief that "through research, collaboration, interactive working processes, artist can enhance levels of sensibility to processes that connect".
