Lifetime Achievement Award for Mahesh Elkunchwar

Mahesh Elkunchwar has been named as the recipient of the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award 2022. The eminent playwright, essayist and professor, Elkunchwar, one of Marathi theatre's most distinguished playwrights, and his work has been translated and performed in many languages.

Elkunchwar, 82, has written over 20 plays--PARTY, HOLI, YUGANT, the WADA Trilogy, ATMAKATHA, SONATA--to name a few. His work takes an incisive look at contemporary India, and is outspoken in style and expression.

He has won several honours, like the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989, Saraswati Samman in 2002, Kalidas Samman among others.

Past recipients of the Tata LitLive Award include VS Naipaul, Mark Tully, Mahasweta Devi, Ruskin Bond, Amitava Ghosh.
